More than 100 auto importers will have to pay a total of VND888 billion (US$39.74 million) due from the previous years, according to a report from the Customs Department in HCM City.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has distributed a draft circular on
examining technology, safety, quality, and environmental protection of
import road vehicles to get suggestions from relevant ministries and
agencies.
Import tax on auto parts and components may be down to zero per
cent next year, two years before schedule in 2018, under the ASEAN Free
Trade Agreement (FTA).
The Government wants to raise the special consumption tax on vehicles
with high engine displacement, according to a statement it delivered to
the National Assembly recently.
December has seen an additional 3,000 vehicles shipped into the country, bringing the total number of imported autos this year to 34,500 units worth $709 million.
